Islamabad Pakistan.
A Pakistani court has convicted EX-PM Imran Khan of revealing official secrets and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. On Tuesday a special court handed him his harshest sentence of 10 years for misusing the confidential piece of cordage sent by a former Pakistani ambassador to the United States.
__the latest in a slew of legal cases that support say are meant to sideline the imprisoned politician just days before the parliamentary elections.
We remind you that EX.PM Imran Khan debuted from August 2018 to April 2022 and was ousted in a non-confidence vote in 2022, is not on the ballot because he has already served a three-year jail from last August and facing trial in more than 150 cases that are still pending against him.
The trial was an illicit act. Baseborn & shady
The former cricket star Imran khan and despite that a very potent politician force because of his axiomatic following and by running an anti-establishment rhetoric.
Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari, a spokesperson for Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, told Al Jazeera the PTI will challenge the court’s decision.
He said trials are held in a very unprofessional manner against Imran Khan :
“Our lawyers were not allowed to represent Imran Khan. They were not even allowed to cross-examine the witnesses. What was unfolding in the court was merely a charade and a sham,” Bukhari said.
Khan claimed the document was proof he was being threatened and that his ouster was a U.S. conspiracy allegedly executed by the military and Government of Pakistan. American and Pakistani officials denied the claim.
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan denounced the trial and said her brother was turned down for the fair hearing. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty of the Khan, she said, adding that the verdict was delivered in haste.
She motivated Khan’s supporters to turn out in large numbers at the polls on 8 February and cast their votes for PTI candidates in solidarity with her brother.
